Some Quick Ergonomic Tips

Nov 25, 2009

If you haven’t noticed by now, we’re passionate about Ergonomics! At Lap Works, we feel that everyone should be able to use their computer and their laptop free of pain! We’ve compiled a few of our favorite tips for everyone. With a few simple changes, it’s easy to improve your ergonomics:

  • Move around. If you’re sitting all day, even in a ergonomically friendly chair, your body needs to move and stretch. Take short breaks once an hour to grab some water or just walk.
  • Exercise. Strong muscles will help you have better posture and you’ll feel better every day.
  • Use a laptop desk. If you’re using a laptop, either in your lap or on a table, you need a laptop desk to put it at the right angle for comfortable computing.
  • Use a comfortable chair. It might be tempting to sit on the floor with your laptop, or on a stool next to your kitchen counter, but neither of these options will support good posture!

With just a few small changes, you can reduce pain, reduce your n for injury, and enjoy your laptop much more!

New Year, New Netbooks

Nov 15, 2009

Thinking about a netbook this holiday season?  You may want to wait a month or two before pulling the trigger.  According to industry buzz, mid-January – indeed all of Q1 2010 – is primed to unleash a flood of new netbook innovations rooted in Intel’s release of the Atom N450.

Atom processors are Intel’s low-voltage netbook CPUs designed specifically to power netbooks and nettop computers, and the N450 is sexier and more efficient than the previous N series processors, thanks to integrating the GPU and memory controller into the CPU.  Insiders anticipate big netbook releases from Lenovo, Acer and ASUS in early January.

More enticing still is that an even faster netty CPU, the N470, might be on the horizon for March 2010.

Are you planning on getting a netbook this holiday season, or thinking of upgrading once the new processors hit the market? Let us know in the comments!

Choosing Great Techie Gifts

Nov 10, 2009

1136507_gift_boxesThe holiday season is fast approaching, so now is the time to start shopping for all your favorite techies and gamers! It can be hard to shop for someone who’s always on the cutting edge of the latest technologies, especially if you’re not. We have a few suggestions on can’t miss gifts that any gamer or laptop desk owner is sure to love!

  • Laptop Desks (did you expect anything less?). If they don’t have a proper desk, consider getting them a laptop desk or a desktop stand. It will help improve their posture and make computing easier. And even if they do have a desk already, take a look at it to see if it really fits all their needs. The wrong desk can be just as bad as no desk at all!
  • Laptop cleaning supplies. Don’t let them clean their screen with their shirt, or worse, a rough paper towel. Get some soft cloths and air in a can so they can keep their laptop clean and safe.
  • A MouzePad. If they’re using a laptop desk with no space for their mouse, they’ll probably end up using it on the edge of the laptop and increase wear on the machine.
  • A mini optical mouse. We love the mouse with a retractable cord – it’s easy to use anywhere and easy to store. They won’t have to worry about damaging the cord with this baby!

We’re always looking for great techie gifts for our friends and family. If you have a favorite, let us know!
